FSEP Business Development Specialist has been leading the way in the development of the Four Seasons Produce Cooperative. Through assistance provided by the MSU Product Center, Jane has been working with farmers to create a cooperative focused specifically on crops grown in hoop houses. In March 2011, the Four Seasons Produce Co-op made its first sale of hoop house grown spinach to Allegiance Hospital in Jackson! The cafeteria traditionally serves one pan of spinach at lunchtime. On March 8, with the introduction of Four Seasons Produce hoop house spinach, the cafeteria served five pans! Thanks to Allegiance Hospital for their commitment to serving fresh, healthy, local food and to the MSU Product Center for guidance and support throughout the process. Allegiance has continued to purchase local food on a regular basis from the Four Seasons Produce Co-op.

Jane Bush, FSEP Business Development Specialist, has also been working with St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with their local food sourcing efforts. St. Joe’s is now purchasing local apples and other items which are available at the North Market, the new cafe in the main building. FSEP appreciates St. Joe’s commitment to sustainability through local food sourcing and production.
